Report: Mens 1st XI vs Sheffield University Bankers 4th XI – September 27, 2025

Horncastle Men’s 1s — battling the odds, the sand, and the hangovers. The Men’s 1s hit the road for their first away trip of the season, destination: Junction 600 Audi, a pitch more suited to a beach volleyball tournament than a hockey match. A delayed start (thanks to Ed polishing his driving skills) didn’t stop the bare 11 from arriving on time. Tom was back in action this week — slightly hungover, slightly tired, and Read more…

Report: Mens 1st XI vs Chesterfield 3rd XI – September 20, 2025

“Short on numbers, big on character – the Men’s 1s find a way, 3-1 Victory to start the season.” The Men’s 1s kicked off their campaign with a squad so light it looked more like a charity 7s side than a proper XI. The day began with dread – Grimsby on the north east coast, visions of a windswept hockey wasteland with seagulls circling overhead. Instead, we rocked up to a brand-new pitch, fresh lines gleaming, and a half-decent crowd. Season opener vibes were strong. A proper stage for hockey. We went 1-0 down early, but spirits lifted when Ben slotted home to make it 1-1. For a brief moment, belief flickered – until Steve channelled his inner Read more…
