Match Report

Horncastle ladies 2s travelled to Spalding to play what they knew would be a tough match. The game started very end-to-end, with both sides creating chances. After a lot of pressure, Spalding finally made a break through and scored to put them 1-0 up. Horncastle continued to fight and had more chances but the score remained 1-0 going into half time. Good midfield work from S Brayshaw, D Samra and C Helliwell enabled Horncastle to hold some possession and win some short corners. Although they came close, they were unsuccessful. Spalding broke quickly and charged forward, but good defensive work from Horncastle kept them at bay. This time it was Horncastles turn to break and a great ball in from H Todd saw L Bingham control the ball in the D. After a few good saves from the spalding keeper, she pushed the ball over the line to level the score. Horncastle were happy to find the equaliser but pushed hard for a late winner in the last 10 minutes. Unfortunately it was not meant to be, but Horncastle are pleased to take a point away from home against a strong opposition. Next week they play Long Sutton away. Player of the match - Jenna Dean
