Match Report

Following Horncastle’s first win against Ely at the start of the 2019/20 season, Horncastle were adamant they were going to make it a second win, this time at home. Horncastle started strong holding their formation well. Williams opened the scoring for Horncastle following a one two between C.Neame and Williams which Williams then powered past the keeper. A Horncastle shot was saved on the line by an Ely defender’s foot resulting in a penalty flick being awarded to Horncastle. Mason calmly stepped up and lifted the ball into the back of the net. Beall made a triumphant dribble up the pitch through several Ely players before passing the ball in to a waiting Mason who firmly pushed the ball into the goal. Horncastle maintained the pressure creating lots of chances. Horncastle’s defence were put under some pressure with Ely taking a free hit on the edge of the D. Goalkeeper, L.Neame, closed down an Ely forward who slipped the ball past her and the ball was saved off the line by a committed White. Horncastle had a 3-0 lead going into the second half. Horncastle patiently and effectively transferred the ball across the pitch, waiting for the crucial moment to attack. Wood made her way onto the score sheet following a hard ball in from E.Tokelove to Wood at the back post for a deflection in. Horncastle continued to attack with a few balls going wide of the posts. A bad tackle from Ely in the D resulted in a second penalty flick being awarded to Horncastle. Williams stepped up this time and with a firm push into the bottom left corner scored her second goal of the game. Horncastle were hungry for more. White took a long corner passing the ball wide to Parslow who put the ball into the back post for Wood to finish for her second goal of the game. The final goal of the game came from Parslow running the byline before putting a firm pass into the P spot which Williams buried in the back of the goal. The game finished 7-0.
