Match Report

Horncastle Ladies travelled away to Ely this weekend, following on from the strong win at home last weekend. The home side, a strong opposition from the off, pushed Horncastle back into their defensive half early and were awarded a penalty corner. Ely converted this into the goal they were chasing, breaking the deadlock. Horncastle fought back, unable to breakdown Ely’s defence and gain the much wanted equaliser. Ely once again attacked, and a shot deflected high, unfortunately for Horncastle, went in on the far post making it 2-0. Determined to bring the game back, the Horncastle side worked hard to move the ball back up the pitch and gain the goal they deserved. Winning a short corner, an excellent strike from Emily Tokelove for Horncastle, went in near the far post making it 2-1 and bringing the travellers back into the game. Following half time, Horncastle determined to gain something from this match, endeavoured to get another goal. But the Ely side were not to be broken, as they cleared several attempts Horncastle made. In a high energy game, both sides created several goal scoring opportunities throughout the second half. With Ely capitalising on another short corner towards the end of the game making it 3-1, and they followed with another seconds before the final whistle to make it 4-1 to the home side. Not a result to reflect the effort from the Horncastle Ladies. They now look forward to facing Wisbech at home next weekend. Player of the Match - Bridie Mason.
