Match Report

Horncastle ladies took to the pitch on Saturday in their penultimate home game of the season. Fielding a strong squad, the home team were competitive from the very first whistle. Some great attacking chances were created by the right and left wingers, with strong injections from Cannon in the middle. The opposition fought back, putting the Horncastle defence under immense pressure. Great play seen by keeper and captain, Neame, who saved and released some cracking balls out wide. Tokelove and Tokelove kept their composure at the back, defending the goal and releasing the ball to the wings. Shortly before the half time whistle blew, the home team gave away a penalty flick to the opposition after tight activity within their defensive D. The first half finished with Horncastle falling 1-0 behind.

The first ten minutes of the second half saw much movement of the ball between both halves, resulting in a quick succession of goals in favour of Spalding. Horncastle ladies came back with a vengeance, Tokelove (A) was on fire, intercepting passes and releasing the ball to the midfield. Driving fiercely down the left wing, Beall nipped past two defensive players and took a close shot at goal, narrowly missing. Another opportunity arose shortly after; the ball was released to Wood on the right who drove speedily down and across the byline, flicking the ball to the penalty spot where it was heavily fought over by both teams. No more goals were scored despite the heavy attacking activity witnessed by the home and away teams alike.

The final score was a hard fought 3-0 win to Spalding.
