After a slow start Horncastle men's 1st team came away with another resounding win. Starting poorly Horncastle soon found themselves 1-0 down, the first time they have been behind this season. Horncastle responded well to their slow start with 2 quick goals to take the lead. Though this resurgence was short lived, Peterborough soon leveled catching Horncastle on the counter attack. Conceding the second goal galvanised Horncastle into action taking control of the game and finishing the half with a 5-2 lead.
The second half started with Horncastle maintaining their superiority, pressing Peterborough deep into their own half. Horncastle were using the ball much better since the break, maintaining possession and probing for any opportunity to extend their lead. Horncastle struck first in the second half to increase their lead though Peterborough were still fighting to regain control and looking dangerous on the counter attack. This fight was rewarded with Peterborough's 3rd goal of the game bringing the score to 6-3.
The remainder of the game was a combination of slick attacking play and resolute defending from Horncastle. Whilst Peterborough must be credited with continually putting the Horncastle defence under pressure it was only Horncastle who were able to convert their chances. Some great defensive work and stellar goalkeeping combined with darting runs from the forwards meant that the score was 9-3 at the final whistle.
The result puts Horncastle top of the league as the only unbeaten team and with a +27 goal difference after just 4 games of the season so far. A long way to go but the future is looking bright.
