About the club

Currently we run two men’s league teams and two ladies’ league teams.

All the club teams play in England Hockey’s Yorkshire & North East (YNE) Leagues. The men’s first and second teams play in YNE Division 2 Yorkshire and YNE Division 2 Wold respectively with the Ladies’ sides playing in YNE Division 1 Peak & Wold, and YNE Division 1 Lindsey. Senior training is held weekly on a Thursday evening from 7:30 until 9pm between mid-August and April.

As a club we can boast success both on and off the field. Not only are we financially independent but strive to provide both ever improving coaching and facilities, with particular focus on junior development. The club has a proven track record of development with many junior members representing the club at senior level and beyond.

The club has a burgeoning junior section and fields teams at both under 13 and under 11 levels. The junior teams participate in the Lincolnshire junior tournaments which are held monthly throughout the season. Horncastle Hockey Club also host these tournaments, alongside other participating clubs, as well as hosting their own events. Junior training is held weekly on a Thursday evening from 6 until 7:15pm between September and May.

Horncastle hockey club are also committed to offering hockey to all members of the community through a number of England Hockey programmes such as Hockey Heroes, Walking Hockey and Back to Hockey. In addition, the club organise and host their own summer league offering mixed hockey to local clubs and a social, friendly route into competitive hockey for junior club members looking to progress or anyone wanting to give the sport a try.

History of the club

Horncastle Hockey Club is a voluntary organisation and was established in November,1970. The club has it’s home at Coronation Walk, Horncastle, in the centre of Lincolnshire, and was founded on one basic principle to provide players with the opportunity to participate in competitive league hockey, regardless of ability.

The club was founded when our current club President George Steadman returned home after four years in the far east (Pictured).

Having been captain of Queen Elizabeths Grammar Schools boys team he decided to get an Old Boys team together and they played their first match against Alford in November 1970 which they lost 3-1 after having scored first with only ten players they tired in the second half.

However, everyone enjoyed the game and wanted to play again and so the club was born. Originally known as Q.E.G.S. Horncastle Old Boys with more and more outside players joining the name was shortened to its present Horncastle H.C.. The founder members still live in the area and support the club to this day.
